On one of my trips to St. Andrews by the Sea in New Brunswick,  I decided to create a more elaborate composition of a group of clam diggers. Periodically, I would see them picking clams from the red mud and thought this would make an interesting subject for a painting.  This pencil study was created to work out the tonal values and composition of a painting to follow.
